A series of recent leaks suggests that almost every major detail of the device, from its display and camera system to its buttons, battery and colors, has now been revealed.
The camera bump of the iPhone Fold is said to be entirely black, regardless of the device’s overall color.
Until now, most rumors focused mainly on the display size and the general form factor.
That focus was understandable, since Apple has been notably cautious about foldable display technology - an area in which Samsung has held a lead since 2019.
However, new leaks on China’s social network Weibo provide a far more comprehensive picture.
The information comes from “Instant Digital,” a familiar name among technology watchers who has repeatedly released accurate leaks about Apple products.
The details shared this time are also considered plausible, aligning with Apple’s design philosophy and the company’s typical approach to resolving complex engineering challenges.
According to Instant Digital, the iPhone Fold will feature notable changes in hardware placement, particularly in its button system.
The volume buttons will reportedly move from the left edge to the upper right, while the sleep/wake button remains in its usual position on the right side.
Concentrating all controls on one side is meaningful when the iPhone Fold is opened, as users will not need to reach across both halves of the device.
This layout also helps Apple avoid routing circuits through the foldable display area - a structurally sensitive zone that affects long-term durability.
Leaks indicate that Apple leaves the entire left side of the device almost empty.
There are no buttons and no main logic boards on that side.
All essential internal components are placed on the right, allowing the opposite half to be dedicated almost entirely to the display and battery.
This redesign is believed to be key to giving the iPhone Fold the largest battery ever fitted to an iPhone.
Battery size is critical because foldable smartphones consume more power due to their larger display area.
The strategy resembles what Apple is rumored to have applied to the iPhone 17, reorganizing internal components to create more room for battery expansion.
If accurate, the iPhone Fold could overcome one of the biggest weaknesses of current foldable phones.
Regarding the camera system, the device is expected to feature a horizontal dual-camera setup rather than the vertical arrangement found on many recent iPhones.
Dynamic Island will remain on the display, but in a smaller form that maximizes screen space.
The device is said to come in at least two colors, with white being one confirmed option.
However, the completely black camera bump has raised curiosity, as it contrasts with Apple’s reported move toward more unified color design, especially as the company seeks to abandon the two-tone approach with the iPhone 17 line.
It is possible that some details were distorted during leak circulation, or that the black camera bump corresponds only to one color variant.
A separate report from The Elec reveals that Apple is considering a significant late-stage decision regarding the protective film for its foldable display.
Apple is reportedly evaluating a premium protective layer applied on top of the foldable glass to enhance resistance to scratches and damage compared with Samsung’s foldable devices.
This is the layer users directly interact with, making its durability especially important.
While Samsung uses PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film, Apple is said to be considering transparent polyimide (PI) film.
According to supply chain sources, Apple has not made a final decision, but transparent PI film is currently viewed as the stronger candidate.
Apple initially planned to use PET film but later reevaluated the material and began considering a more advanced alternative.
Transparent PI film offers a harder surface and better scratch resistance, delivering a noticeable advantage in daily use.
Both film types can meet technical requirements, but Apple appears intent on creating a clear and premium distinction from competitors.
The use of PI film is not only visually superior but also offers practical benefits thanks to its higher durability.
Reports suggest that Chinese company Lens Technology may be responsible for producing the foldable glass and applying the protective layer before the screen is fully assembled.
The internal display of the iPhone Fold is expected to measure 7.8 inches with an almost invisible crease, while the external display is about 5.5 inches.
If the leaks are accurate, the iPhone Fold will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this fall.
Although The Elec often provides reliable supply chain information, the report still raises questions about whether Apple would truly adopt a new display-protection technology so late in development.
