A man in Lam Dong Province has been fined VND357.5m (USD15,700) for illegally keeping douc langurs and monkeys for producing traditional 'medical' glue.

Many frozen doucs found in Lam Dong Province



The Environmental Police Department in Lam Dong collaborated with the provincial forest ranger unit and Duc Trong District Police to raid Tran Hoai Nam’s restaurant and discovered many frozen wild animals.   

The police seized eight black-shanked doucs and eight northern pig-tailed macaques which are endangered species. Nam admitted that he bought the animals from a man to make glue. 

He was fined VND350m for illegally keeping the black-shanked doucs and VND7.5m for the northern pig-tailed macaques.

The animals were seized and transferred to Lam Dong Museum.
