Yet beyond its well-known landscapes, few realize that this place has become a favorite cloud-hunting spot among young travelers and photography enthusiasts, thanks to its dense cloud formations, scenic beauty, easy access, and reasonable costs.
With a passion for exploring nature, Nguyen Thi Thao Huong from Hanoi has visited Ba Vi National Park four times just to chase clouds.
Her most recent trip was in late March 2026, when rhododendron flowers were still in full bloom across the mountains.
To reach this cloud-hunting destination, she departed from the city center by motorbike, a journey that took around one hour and 30 minutes.
According to her, the route is relatively easy to navigate, though travelers should maintain steady control and stay cautious on foggy stretches if traveling early in the morning.
From her experience, Ba Vi National Park offers two prime cloud-hunting spots - Thuong Temple and the Ho Chi Minh President Temple.
Among them, she often chooses the Ho Chi Minh President Temple, located on the summit of Vua Peak at an altitude of 1,296m above sea level. The site is convenient to reach and offers numerous picturesque viewpoints.
“I spent about an hour walking to the cloud-hunting spot, stopping along the way to capture beautiful scenes,” she shared.
Out of her four visits, Huong successfully witnessed the sea of clouds twice, admitting that earlier attempts were affected by her lack of experience in predicting weather conditions. Over time, she learned that rainfall the day before significantly increases the chance of cloud formation the next day.
One unique aspect of Ba Vi is that clouds can appear throughout the day, allowing visitors to enjoy the experience in both the morning and afternoon, without the need to wake up extremely early as required in other popular destinations.
“If there are clouds, you can see them all day, so there’s no need to rush out too early. Still, the most beautiful moment is at sunrise,” she noted.
Nguyen Duc Anh, also from Hanoi, had the chance to witness the surreal beauty of the cloud sea at the Ho Chi Minh President Temple about a month ago.
He was particularly struck by the sunrise, when sunlight pierced through layers of drifting white clouds, creating a magical natural spectacle.
Based on his experience, the simplest way to predict cloud conditions is to observe from the mountain’s base. If the mountain is obscured from view, there is up to a 90% chance of clouds above. Conversely, if the mountain is clearly visible, clouds are unlikely to form.
Beyond its natural beauty and favorable weather, Ba Vi also surprises visitors with its affordability.
Entrance tickets cost VND60,000 per person (US$2.40), while students receive a discounted rate of VND20,000 (US$0.80).
Many visitors consider this pricing reasonable and accessible, especially for young travelers who are drawn to mountainous landscapes but may not yet have the means to visit more distant cloud-hunting destinations like Ta Xua or Da Lat.
In addition to cloud hunting, visitors can explore several sacred temples situated on the mountain peaks, including Thuong Temple and Mau Cuu Trung Thien Temple - both offering equally stunning cloud views.
With its striking scenery, fresh atmosphere, affordable costs, and diverse experiences, Ba Vi National Park is expected to remain a popular destination during the upcoming Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
