Many domestic tour operators reported that the number of tour bookings for Christmas and New Year's Day 2026 has increased compared to the same period last year, especially tours abroad.

According to BestPrice Travel, Vietluxtour, and Hoang Viet Travel, Vietnamese customers favor domestic tours costing VND5 million to VND10 million/person (for 3-4 day programs) and outbound tours costing VND12 million to VND20 million/person (for 4-5 day itineraries).

"Mid-range, 4-5 day tours are leading in booking rates, especially themed programs like winter tours, family resort vacations, and cultural experience tours," said Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour.

Additionally, Vietnamese customers tend to prioritize non-shopping tours, compact itineraries, direct flights, and many experiences for families and young children, according to BestPrice Travel's assessment.

Phu Quoc is popular

According to domestic travel agencies, Phu Quoc (An Giang) is the most preferred destination for Vietnamese customers during New Year's Day 2026.

Data from the Booking platform shows that the island leads the search volume of Vietnamese customers for the upcoming Tet holiday, increasing by 86 percent compared to the same period last year.

Following Phu Quoc, Da Lat and HCMC hold the second and third positions, respectively, in the top 10 most-searched domestic destinations.

In the central region, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Mui Ne, and Hoi An remain familiar names. In the North, Hanoi and Sa Pa are the two representatives on this list.

Phu Quoc is also the most-searched destination among all spots in Vietnam by international visitors, according to data from the travel platform Agoda.

International visitor search volume for Phu Quoc for the Christmas and New Year holidays has increased by 47 percent compared to the same period. According to Agoda, the island attracts tourists with its white sand beaches, clear blue water, rich natural ecosystem, and resorts and entertainment parks suitable for multi-generational family vacations.

In early December, Phu Quoc received the title of "World's Leading Nature Island Destination" for the fourth time at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025.

In addition, Bai Kem was honored as "World's Leading Regional Beach 2025"; the Kiss Bridge as "World's Leading Iconic Tourism Bridge"; and Sunset Town the "World's Leading Iconic Tourist Destination 2025" for the second consecutive year. These awards have contributed to making Phu Quoc even more popular this year.

According to data from the Kien Giang Department of Tourism, in 2024, the pearl island welcomed over 2.5 million international visitors and nearly 5 million domestic visitors. Notably, the group of tourists from high-spending markets such as South Korea, China, Russia, and Eastern Europe continued to account for a large proportion. Significantly, the average length of stay has increased, with a clear rise in demand for premium entertainment and resort services.

Thailand, China lead outbound travel

Branavan Aruljothi, country director of Booking Viet Nam, noted that Vietnamese travel behavior at year end shows clear segmentation. One group prioritizes convenience and relaxation at familiar domestic destinations, while another seeks fresh cultural experiences through short trips within the Asia-Pacific region.

For outbound tours, Asian destinations dominate search lists, led by Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), and Seoul (South Korea). Paris (France) is the only non-Asian destination in the top 10, recording search growth of more than 50 percent year on year thanks to the appeal of the Christmas and new year atmosphere.

Thailand remains popular due to affordable costs, convenient travel, and vibrant nightlife.

China continues to show strong appeal to Vietnamese travelers. According to Agoda, among the top 20 overseas destinations most searched by Vietnamese families for the period from December 2025 to January 2026, Shanghai recorded a 58 percent increase and Beijing rose 59 percent.

Vietnamese travel firms have introduced many new products for the new year holiday in China, such as Taipei – Taichung – Kaohsiung tours or Shanghai – Hangzhou – Wuzhen itineraries. Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, is not a new destination but remains among the most sought-after during this holiday.

In addition, to meet the travel and leisure needs of travelers who can take only one day off during the 2026 new year holiday, some companies have launched attractive 24-hour products.

BestPrice introduced Ha Long cruise combos featuring 5-star overnight bay experiences for families and couples, as well as “staycation” packages in Hanoi, Da Nang, and HCMC combining 5-star hotel stays, fine dining, and wellness spa services.
