Nguyen Hong Quang, chief of the office of the Quang Nam People’s Committee, said the committee recently issued a conclusion on some issues relating to the management and protection of the ecosystem in the Cu Lao Cham world biosphere reserve.
The provincial administration requested Cu Lao Cham Trade-Investment-Tourism Company, which is building a resort on the island, to publicise the plan for the 25.88ha project and inform local authorities about the construction progress.
The company was ordered to ensure that the project on Bac Beach will not affect the recovery of local coral and seagrass or the movements and nesting sites of sea turtles.

The firm was also told to stay updated on UNESCO’s information and planning for the world biosphere reserve so that its project won’t influence Cu Lao Cham.
Agencies and the People’s Committee of Hoi An city also have to review the dossiers of investment projects on Cu Lao Cham.
Quang noted the province’s consistent viewpoint of not exchanging the environment for projects.
He added Quang Nam authorities and Cu Lao Cham residents want to develop tourism in a sustainable manner.-VNA
