The rainfall has been severe, with the Chieng Noi commune in Mai Son District recording nearly 200mm of rain, according to the Northwest Weather Station.

Reports from the local authorities in Chieng Noi indicate that the floods have swept away six individuals - five from Hua Pu Village and one from Pa Hoc Village. As of noon today, rescue teams have recovered the bodies of two missing persons: Giang Thi D. and her child, Vang A B., both from Hua Pu Village.

In addition to the bridge collapses, the flooding has caused significant damage in Chieng Noi, including the destruction of 12 houses, damage to a primary school, and the inundation of several agricultural fields. Many villages are cut off due to flooding, and extensive damage has been reported to crops.

In response to the worsening situation, Chieng Noi has mobilized local forces for search and rescue operations and to assist affected households in recovery efforts. Authorities are also working to evacuate families from flood and landslide-prone areas to safer locations.

From July 23-24, Son La Province experienced widespread heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 300mm of rain. The Northwest Weather Station forecasts that there is still a risk of flash floods and landslides in the mountainous regions of Son La in the coming hours, even after the rain subsides.
