Golden rice season in Sa Pa, Lao Cai

Nestled at an altitude of 1,600 meters at the foot of the majestic Hoang Lien Son Range, Sa Pa in Lao Cai Province enjoys cool weather throughout the year. 

From June to August, Sa Pa is one of northern Vietnam's favorite summer escapes, with temperatures typically ranging between 20°C and 25°C.

By mid-August, visitors begin arriving to admire lush green rice terraces as they start turning golden and to join trekking tours through the region's iconic landscapes.

Travelers can rent a motorbike or take a taxi to Lao Chai and Ta Van, home to Hmong, Dao and Giay communities, while also visiting May Bridge, Muong Hoa Stream, Giang Ta Chai Waterfall and Seo My Ty Lake.

Although these attractions are only about 10 kilometers away, parts of the route are narrow and uneven. The spectacular scenery of terraced rice fields, cornfields and mountain valleys more than rewards the journey.

Those interested in learning about the culture of the Black Hmong can choose the trekking route through Y Linh Ho Village, where rice ripens earlier than in many surrounding areas.

From early August, visitors riding the Fansipan cable car can also enjoy panoramic views of the Muong Hoa Valley blanketed in golden rice fields.

However, travelers should monitor weather forecasts carefully, as August can also bring heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides. Extra caution is advised when visiting streams, rivers and lakes.

Enjoy the blue waters of Quy Nhon, Gia Lai

From May to September, Quy Nhon enjoys sunny weather and relatively calm seas, making it ideal for beach activities.

Visiting in August also allows travelers to avoid the peak domestic tourism crowds typically seen in June and July.

Located about 23 to 27 kilometers from central Quy Nhon, Ky Co Beach is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, often compared to tropical destinations such as Bali and the Maldives.

Visitors can swim, snorkel, relax in beach huts, ride jet skis, try parasailing or camp by the shore.

Nearby, Eo Gio features a scenic coastal walkway hugging dramatic cliffs with sweeping ocean views.

Those interested in local fishing village life can visit Nhon Ly, Nhon Hai or Trung Luong.

Trung Luong Fishing Village, located in Cat Tien Commune, offers a peaceful atmosphere, a gently sloping sandy beach and calm, clear water suitable for families with young children.

The nearby offshore wind turbines also create a striking backdrop for photographs.

Fruit harvest season in Can Tho

Summer, from May to August, is one of the best times to visit Can Tho, when orchards are filled with seasonal fruits including rambutan, durian, mangosteen and pomelo.

The city's best-known attraction is Cai Rang Floating Market, recognized by VietKings in 2023 as one of Vietnam's Top 50 unique tourism experiences.

The market begins trading around 5 a.m., with its busiest period between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Most visitors wake before sunrise to cruise through the market by boat, watching the city come to life as traders begin another day on the river.

Breakfast specialties such as bun rieu (crab noodle soup) and hu tieu (southern-style noodle soup) are widely available.

A typical breakfast costs around VND40,000–50,000 (US$1.50–1.90).

Boats also sell drinks including fresh fruit juice, coconut water and iced coffee, generally priced between VND10,000 and 15,000 (US$0.40–0.60).

From the floating market, visitors can continue to Con Son Islet, where activities include touring fruit orchards, making traditional cakes, watching the famous "fish circus" and sampling Mekong Delta cuisine.

Boat tours also stop at floating fish farms, where visitors can enjoy unusual attractions such as fish massages and viewing giant freshwater fish raised by local families.

Another interesting destination is the ancient longan orchard in Binh Thuy Ward.

Home to more than 300 longan trees over 50 years old, the orchard is famous for its twisted trunks, moss-covered bark and naturally sculptural forms that resemble dragons or giant bonsai trees.

The traditional longan variety is named after the natural split in its seed, which resembles a dragon's eye.

Although it has larger seeds and less flesh than many modern varieties, it is prized for its intensely sweet flavor and rich fragrance, with just a few clusters capable of filling an entire house with their aroma.
