Nguyen Dang Phuc, a student at Hong Ngoc Primary and Secondary School in Tan Thoi Hoa Ward, has emerged as the top scorer in Ho Chi Minh City’s 2026 grade 10 entrance examination with a total score of 28.75 out of 30.
According to the results, Phuc scored 8.75 in Literature and achieved perfect 10s in both Mathematics and English.

In addition to leading the citywide entrance examination, Phuc was admitted to the specialised mathematics programmes at two of the city’s most prestigious schools - Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The student currently holds an IELTS score of 6.5 and has built an impressive academic record. His achievements include second prize at the city-level Casio calculator mathematics competition, third prize in the city-level mathematics competition for gifted students, a Distinction award in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), and silver medals at the city-level Violympic Mathematics competitions in both English and Vietnamese.
With outstanding performances in both the grade 10 entrance examination and a range of academic competitions, Nguyen Dang Phuc has become one of the most distinguished students of Ho Chi Minh City’s 2026 admissions season.
The 2026 grade 10 entrance examination in Ho Chi Minh City attracted more than 151,000 registered candidates, the highest number on record. Public high schools offered 117,355 places, meaning around 78% of candidates had the opportunity to secure a place in the public education system.
This was also the first admissions cycle held after the administrative merger. Students from the former Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau areas sat the same examination.
Admission scores for public high schools are calculated based on the combined results of Mathematics, Literature and Foreign Language, together with any applicable priority or bonus points.
