The Hanoi Party Committee has considered an adjustment of its master plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050. Hanoi Vice Chair Duong Duc Tuan said the adjustment aims to develop Hanoi into a modern, smart city that leads other urban areas and creates spillover effects. Hanoi will also use tools to regulate and closely control the increase in the urban population.
The capital city will carry out measures to ease the population load in the city, bringing people to nearby satellite urban areas, and promoting satellite cities and models of cities belonging to the main city.
The adjustment of the plan aims to closely manage the development of multi-storey buildings in the center of Hanoi, and will prioritize small urban areas and suburbs developed through urban-rural area connections.
Regarding urban space, Tuan said Hanoi plans to develop major urban areas in the inner city, the outskirts and cities in the northern and western districts. Hanoi would consider the Red River as a green route and central landscape with harmonious urban design on the two sides of the river.
On the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai route, Hanoi would develop smart urban areas with public transport hubs. Hanoi will also consider another airport in the capital city's southern part.
It is now considering building cities in districts in the north (Dong Anh, Me Linh and Soc Son) and the west (Hoa Lac and Xuan Mai).
Hanoi will consider developing a transport network, with connections with neighboring localities in the capital city area, with emphasis on major routes, and bridges across the Red River, Duong and Day Rivers and other major river routes.
Earlier, at a meeting with voters, Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Dinh Tien Dung spoke about a plan to build two cities belonging to Hanoi. A city will be established in the north, with Noi Bai Airport serving as the development center. The other city, in the west, will be a city of science, technology and education.
