Facing an Indonesian side undergoing a period of transition, Vietnam matched their opponents for much of the contest and created a balanced, competitive game.
However, familiar issues resurfaced at crucial moments. A costly individual error by Vu Ngoc Anh led directly to Indonesia’s opening goal, setting the tone for a match where small margins made the difference.
Vietnam were also unfortunate in front of goal. Early in the match, a close-range effort struck the crossbar, while a late attempt hit the post, denying them a potential equaliser.
Indonesia capitalised on their chances with clinical finishing. Kareth scored twice in the first half, putting his team firmly in control before the break.
Trailing 0-2 at halftime, Vietnam responded strongly after the restart.
Do Hai ignited hopes with a powerful long-range strike in the 22nd minute, reducing the deficit. But just a minute later, Indonesia restored their two-goal cushion through Sanjaya on a swift counterattack.
Vietnam refused to give in. Cong Dai brought them back into the contest in the 29th minute, setting up a tense final stretch.
In the closing minutes, head coach Diego Giustozzi’s side switched to a five-player attacking setup in search of an equaliser. Despite sustained pressure, Indonesia’s disciplined marking and defensive organisation held firm.
A late effort from Do Hai that struck the post summed up Vietnam’s night - full of effort, but lacking the final touch of fortune.
Vietnam’s goals came from Do Hai (22’) and Cong Dai (29’), while Indonesia’s scorers were Kareth (9’, 13’) and Sanjaya (23’).
The 2-3 result sends Indonesia into the final, while Vietnam are left to reflect on a performance that showed promise but ultimately fell short at decisive moments.
