
The Ministry of Transport has officially approved the master plan for Vinh International Airport in Nghe An province for the 2021-2030 period, with a long-term vision extending to 2050.
Under the plan, Vinh Airport will be upgraded to a 4E-class airport with a capacity to handle 8 million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo annually by 2030.
According to the approved plan, the airport will accommodate aircraft such as the Airbus A320/A321 and their equivalents, as well as larger aircraft like the Boeing B747, B777, B787, and Airbus A350.
By 2050, Vinh International Airport is expected to further expand its capacity to 14 million passengers and 35,000 tons of cargo per year. It will continue to serve the same aircraft models, including wide-body jets.
Runway upgrades - 2021-2030: The existing runway will be extended toward the 17-end, reaching a total length of 3,000 meters and a width of 45 meters; By 2050: A second runway, also measuring 3,000 meters by 45 meters, will be added to enhance operational efficiency.
Aircraft apron expansion - 2021-2030: The existing aircraft apron will be expanded to accommodate approximately 15 parking positions. The passenger terminal area (T2) will include 10 additional parking positions.
By 2050: The aircraft apron at Terminal 2 will be further expanded to provide 29 aircraft parking positions.
Passenger terminal enhancements - 2021-2030: The existing Terminal 1 (T1) will be expanded to handle 5 million passengers per year.
By 2050: Terminal 2 (T2) will be expanded to accommodate 9 million passengers per year, bringing the total airport capacity to 14 million passengers annually.
With these upgrades, Vinh International Airport is expected to become a crucial transportation hub in central Vietnam, improving regional connectivity and boosting economic development.
