Nhu Quynh, a forecaster at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said northern and central Vietnam could see widespread hot weather in the coming days as thunderstorms subside.

By August 8, weather conditions across the region are expected to improve significantly as rainfall rapidly decreases.

In northern Vietnam, thunderstorms will be confined to a few areas, while daytime conditions will turn sunny. Some locations could experience localized hot weather, with maximum temperatures exceeding 35°C.

From Thanh Hoa to northern Quang Tri, thunderstorms will gradually ease, leaving only scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Notably, according to the forecaster, a widespread heatwave is expected to develop across these areas from August 9.

On August 9, widespread hot weather is forecast to first affect northeastern Vietnam, with maximum temperatures generally ranging from 35-37°C and locally exceeding 37°C.

From August 10, the heatwave is expected to expand into northwestern Vietnam and across a broad stretch of central Vietnam from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, as well as eastern Quang Ngai province. Temperatures are forecast to generally reach 35-36°C, with some locations exceeding 36°C.

The national weather agency has advised people to minimize outdoor activities around midday and in the early afternoon, when the heat is typically at its most intense.

In particular, actual outdoor temperatures may feel 2-4°C higher than forecast, depending on surface conditions, such as concrete and asphalt, as well as humidity.
