Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi comprises two buildings: The Heritage Wing (corner of Ngo Quyen - Le Phung Hieu Street) and the Opera Wing (Ly Thai To Street).

The Heritage Wing was constructed between 1901 and 1908, while the Opera Wing was added in 1992, bringing the total number of rooms to 358.

In 1996, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was selected as a member of the prestigious global hotel group, earning the title of the first 5-star hotel in Hanoi by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

In 2021, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was recognized by the leading American travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler as one of the "Top 30 Leading Hotels in Asia" and was honored as the "Best Business Hotel in Hanoi" by the Hong Kong magazine Business Traveller Asia-Pacific.

In 2022, the hotel was featured in "The World's 101 Greatest Hotels" by Fodor's Travel, the world's largest travel guide, and was named one of the best city hotels in Asia by the renowned travel magazine Travel + Leisure in their annual World's Best Awards 2022.

The hotel has welcomed many world celebrities, including heads of state, royalty, actors, writers, musicians, and business leaders. Notable guests include former US President George W. Bush, former French President Francois Hollande, and former Swiss President. Former US President Donald Trump stayed here during his visit to Hanoi in November 2017. In April 2024, Apple CEO Tim Cook also chose to stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi.

The hotel's most luxurious room is the Grand Prestige Suite, also known as the Presidential Suite, located in the Opera Wing. Spanning 176 square meters, it is decorated in a contemporary style and features a spacious lobby, master bedroom, bathroom, separate spa room, and dining room for eight guests.

This exclusive room for heads of state adheres to strict standards that few hotels or resorts can meet. The master bedroom includes a large Sofitel MyBed (King size), designed to limit the impact of movement from the person lying next to it. The bed has three layers of mattresses, including a natural fiber layer and a waterproof lining, ensuring a restful sleep according to "Sofitel The Best" standards.

The bathroom in the Grand Prestige Suite features a French-style bathtub, a steam shower, and luxurious amenities from some of the world's most prestigious brands.

The hotel's restaurant and bar system offers a variety of styles. Guests can choose from the Parisian-style La Terrasse café, the casual Bamboo Bar by the pool, the Vietnamese restaurant Huong Vi Garden, or the award-winning classic French restaurant Le Beaulieu.

Recently, the Michelin Guide suggested enjoying egg coffee at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel if you have 48 hours in Hanoi, highlighting the hotel's blend of luxury and historical charm since 1901.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has witnessed many historical events. Under the Bamboo Bar area lies a special bomb shelter, discovered in 2011 during renovation work. This bomb shelter opened to guests on May 21, 2012, offering a unique historical attraction for hotel visitors.

In 2013, the bomb shelter was awarded an honorary prize for cultural heritage preservation. The jury highly praised the efforts to preserve and restore the bomb shelter, which had been forgotten for decades.
