At exactly 7 p.m. on October 16, Apple officially opened pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, in several markets, including Vietnam.

However, the initial supply was quickly exhausted. Customers fortunate enough to complete their orders within the first few minutes are expected to receive their devices on October 23, the official launch date.

Just half an hour after pre-orders began, all configurations listed on Apple's US online store showed estimated delivery dates extending into late January 2027.

Specifically, delivery estimates for the iPhone Duo in white and black, across the 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options, had slipped to January 25, 2027.

On the Apple Store Vietnam website, Apple has limited purchases to two iPhone Duo devices per customer. All versions are currently listed with an estimated delivery date of January 27, 2027.

A representative of a domestic retail chain said customers who placed pre-orders between October 16 and 22 would begin receiving their devices from October 23.

Meanwhile, another retailer's website displayed an estimated delivery window of December 1-31, 2026, with the exact delivery date to be confirmed after customers completed their deposits.

The months-long delivery delays appear to reflect a combination of two factors: strong consumer interest in Apple's first foldable iPhone and severe supply constraints during the initial launch period.

According to Bloomberg, initial supplies of the iPhone Duo are expected to remain limited because of complex manufacturing challenges and relatively low production yields for the foldable display and titanium hinge components.

As previously reported by VietNamNet, TopZone, a retail chain operated by Mobile World, announced that customers would need to pay a VND 30 million (approximately US$1,140) deposit to reserve an iPhone Duo.
The retailer also indicated that the number of available pre-order slots would be limited.

According to information obtained by VietNamNet, the deposit requirement applies to all Apple-authorized retailers in Vietnam, rather than being a policy specific to TopZone.
