On her very first evening in Hanoi, Korean guest Suhyang visited a nearby street vendor and immediately devoured two steaming bowls of pho - a dish she had been craving for a long time - praising it enthusiastically with every bite.

Suhyang is a popular Korean food content creator with over 715,000 subscribers on YouTube.

During her recent trip to Vietnam, she chose Hanoi as her first stop. Suhyang revealed that the very first dish she wanted to try was pho - the iconic Vietnamese noodle soup she had long yearned for.

That evening, she visited a modest street-side pho stall on Tran Nhat Duat Street in Hoan Kiem Ward, close to her hotel. “This is the Vietnamese dish I’ve been craving for so long,” Suhyang said.

At the stall, she ordered two bowls according to her taste: one bowl of rare and well-done beef pho priced at 45,000 VND (approximately $1.77), and one special bowl priced at 70,000 VND (about $2.75), which included a variety of meats like rare beef, well-done beef, and braised beef in wine sauce.

She commented that both bowls were affordably priced and couldn’t hide her excitement as she prepared to dig in.

“The broth is rich and bursting with the distinctive flavor of beef. The noodles are smooth, and the meat is tender and juicy, not dry at all,” Suhyang shared after trying the first bowl.

After finishing both bowls, Suhyang declared the braised beef pho her favorite.

Demonstrating her familiarity with Vietnamese dining, she squeezed in lime juice and added pepper and chili sauce to the steaming bowl of pho.

She admitted the flavor profile noticeably improved after the additions of sourness and spice, making the dish even more enjoyable.

Suhyang then moved on to the second bowl and exclaimed with delight, noting that the beef braised in wine “looked like it might be dry but was surprisingly moist and tender.”

“I kept eating and eating, but the bowl still seemed full of meat,” she said humorously.

She also pointed out that in addition to the juicy braised beef, the bowl contained firm and flavorful brisket. She kept repeating how delicious everything was.

“The broth is deeply flavorful, rich with the aroma of beef - it kept me eating nonstop,” she added.

Suhyang concluded that both bowls of pho were not only delicious but also very reasonably priced. If she returns to Vietnam, she said, she will definitely come back to this exact spot to enjoy them again.

Beyond pho, Suhyang also explored a wide array of Hanoi street foods during her visit, including crispy baguette with spring rolls and fries, mixed pho (pho tron), and fried rice with pickled mustard greens and beef.

She was especially impressed by the mixed pho, which she described as having a perfect balance of sour, spicy, salty, and sweet flavors. The addition of roasted peanuts added a nutty richness, and the thick sauce gave it a unique twist.

The Korean YouTuber also tried several popular local drinks loved by Hanoi youth, such as corn milk and lemon tea.
