Vietnam is studying a pilot scheme that would designate the leftmost expressway lane as a passing lane, requiring drivers to return to the right after overtaking or risk penalties.
Vietnam's revised road network plan through 2050 calls for a nationwide expressway system of 46 routes totaling about 10,106 km, including five newly added routes.
Chief of the ministry's Office Lam Van Hoang said at a conference on July 7 that 219 km of national highways were built and another 212 km were upgraded in the first six months.
Vietnam plans to spend more than 3.2 quadrillion VND (123 billion USD) to expand its expressway network to nearly 9,000km by 2050, under a long-term infrastructure blueprint approved this week by the Ministry of Construction.
